Khador VS Everblight Raymond

Toshi wins via ‘Caster kill, Karchev smashed Lylyth.

Toshis View
As Raymond says, I was still hurting from our first battle when the Carnivean spewed up all over Sorcha. However, not being toooo mean, I took an all time favourite army – Karchev and his bloodthirsty Berzerkers. Berzerkers benefit the most from Karchev’s signature spell, Unearthly Rage. Boasting 2 Initial attacks and a chain attack each, assuming they all hit thats a total of 3 attacks with boosted hit and damage rolls. With 3 of them, and including Karchev with 2 focus, i would be able to make up for Karchev’s annoyingly low focus score by giving myself a whopping 28 boosts in one round! Bring on the Brawlers!
Raymonds View.
A game of revenge, i knew Toshi was going to rip me a new one. Having lost my bonded Carny the game before i was feeling abit worse for wear. Basic plan, try and knock out some systems early and try burning down.
Turn 1
With an interesting special event, limiting LOS to 8”, I was not able to speed my Jacks up the usual way – which is to charge all the enemies granting a 7” movement for no focus cost. So, I had to use Tow to get up quickly, to accomplish the “in-your-face” nature of this army.
Turn 1.
Toshi advances, and i learn a whole lot about the destructive nature of his guys, namely iron curtain and tow. I move up just into range so toshi would charge in next turn.
Turn 2
Second turn I was in range with Tow helping my Zerkers get close enough to charge on their activation, Karchev himself Fissured the ground, hitting a Swordsman and a Shredder. With a nice boosted roll, Karchev one-shot the shredder and easily killed the Swordsman. 2 of my 3 Zerkers (one was Drago) charged, and killed another Shredder and a couple of Swordsmen due to Iron Curtain. I had the Iron Curtain set up to make Karchev immune to the charge of the lurking Carnivean, easily the model I was most scared of.
Turn 2.
I learn more of this armys power with Karchev boosting all hit and damage rolls of Jacks for a rather low focus cost. StriderDS takes a couple shots, 2 auto damage per round pretty much. Shredder charges a jack, i place it horribly so only 1 swordsman can get into base to base. Carny and forsaken team up on another jack. And a shredder puts itself in between Karchev and Lylyth.
Turn 3
This was my turn to rip some Everblight beasties up. Of my models, I had suffered some damage to a Berzerker who had lost an arm, but the rest were still fine and functional. I had set it up earlier, so that the Carnivean would charge one of two models – either Drago, who was protected by countercharge from the second Berzerker, or the first Berzerker, who was similarly protected by Karchev. He attacked the first, and Karchev ripped him a new one. I cleaned up a little here, taking out some Shredders and the remaining Swordsmen.
Turn 3.
Carny gets owned, Swordsman get thwacked, shredders take a pounding. Forsaken finished off a jack, she is really strong in melee i found out.
Turn 4
After losing Berzerker #1, all the remaining models were still fully functional. Unearthly Rage, and a charge on the in-range Lylyth with Karchev, and a hit with a boosted Sunder attack chopped her into bits.
Turn 4.
Dont forget to turn out the lights, Karchev charged Lylyth, and smashes her in the face, hard.
Final Thoughts
A good game, my blitz team performed as I had thought it would, I did end up losing a Berzerker which was what I had assumed would happen, to the Carnivean (it actually died to the Forsaken, which was a suprise) and I knew that as soon as Karchev drew a bead on Lylyth she was done for. Was a little bit of work getting through to her, but at the end of the day Karchev and his team proved to have too much armour / health for Lylyth to take down. Personally, I wanted to demonstrate the Karchev powerslide here, but didnt end up needing to do it. Oh well, next time Raymond :)
Final thoughts.
Ouch. The limiting sight was a big thorn in my side this match, having to leave Lylyth as close to the frontline was always going to end badly, and Toshis guys were built to rip things apart. I did a fair bit of damage to all Jacks and destroyed one. A bit more focus fire and better base to base placements are my lessons learned this time. Solid game from Toshi, and as always look forward to the next one.
